Yard Debris Collection & Mulch Program
Yard Debris Collection Program
The City of New Port Richey Streets Division picks up yard debris throughout the City from residents. Debris is to be placed on the right of way, as close to the street as possible without going over the roadway or sidewalk. Yard Debris may also be placed in the alley. Do not tie or bag the debris, as we will not pick it up. Should your pile have anything other than yard debris in its pile, it will be red-tagged to advise why it has not been picked up. Once the issue has been corrected, the pile will be picked up on its NEXT regular pick up.

Crews travel a specific route to pick up the debris. This route is on a continuous rotation. It generally takes about 6-8 weeks to get through the entire City to pick up all yard debris. You may use this to estimate, from your last pick up, to see when they will be in your area again.

Should you have a lot of trimming to conduct, the City asks that you call the Public Works Department to get a closer time frame and schedule your trimming when we will be in your area, as we do not do special pickups.

Mulch Program
Where does all the yard waste go once it is picked up? The yard debris is disposed of at city-owned and -operated mulching facilities. The debris is ground up and piled into 15-20 foot rows. The mounds are turned weekly and sprayed with water to encourage decomposition. The resulting heat that is generated internally during this process eliminates any weed seeds remaining.

The final product is transported to the pick up site on Pine Hill Road across from our Fleet Department & City Gas Pumps. This recycled mulch is available free to city residents 24 hours a day.

The City will deliver the complementary mulch to City citizens whether it's intended for residential or commercial properties. The size of the mulch load varies from 1-14 yards, and is based on location. Delivery orders are available upon request, and are completed when staffing is available.

The City requests you have the available information when placing your delivery order:
  • Contact name and best available contact phone number
  • Address of location
  • Section marked on property where mulch is to be placed
If you choose to pick up the mulch on your own, make sure you bring a shovel. If there is a City employee available they will assist you with equipment, loading the bed of your pickup truck as a courtesy. Any citizen can pick up mulch, you do not have to be a City Resident.
