The City of New Port Richey city limits cover 5 square miles with a population of approximately 18,000 residents. New Port Richey is the hub of west Pasco County and is surrounded by an unincorporated population of approximately 240,000 county residents.

The New Port Richey Police Department is a progressive agency that currently employs 41 sworn officers, including two reserve officers and three auxiliary officers. The department has 25 civilian employees, which include dispatchers and crime scene, victim advocate, code enforcement, and other personnel. The Police Department is the largest municipal agency in Pasco County and is also a community oriented policing (COP) department.
